Why the Fight Matters
Recovery from combat trauma is not always gentle.
For some wounded soldiers and veterans living with PTSD, rebuilding can also mean reconnecting with the part of themselves that once knew how to fight, endure and push forward.
Valery Hazanov, Ph.D., Director of Sheba and FIDF’s “Returning to Life” Center for Victims of Mental Trauma at Beit Halochem Jerusalem, has described House of Heroes as a place of exceptional sensitivity toward injured soldiers, including those suffering from PTSD.
He believes mixed martial arts can add an important dimension to recovery by helping activate a healthy, controlled fight response.
“Their identity as warriors, as fighters, can get lost.”
